Detective Inspector Michael Angel and his team investigate another puzzling and chilling case of murder in the South Yorkshire town of Bromersley. Wheelchair-bound millionaire businessman, Joshua Gumme, has the Midas touch--he is successful with women and in business. Even at card games he wins every time, but while everybody knows he cheats, they just don't know how.

It is no surprise therefore, when his body is found floating in the River Don. At the same time, Angel's investigations lead him on the trail of two dangerous crooks, but as Michael Angel attempts to find and arrest them, he soon discovers that they have their own plans for the inspector.
