Desc: Page 423 is misnumbered 423 Prov: Inscribed 'Dr. Jeffray' Note: Chemist, physiologist, botanist, and physician, William Cullen attracted students from all over the world to study at Edinburgh. "The most conspicuous figure in the history of the Edinburgh Medical School during the eighteenth century. He was an inspiring teacher and was instrumental in founding the Glasgow Medical School in 1744. His clinical lectures were notable as being the first given in the vernacular instead of in Latin." (Garrison & Morton) The above work was "intended chiefly as a text-book for the use of my students". It was regarded as the authoritative work on medicine in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
