Edition Notes

"Odérahi est la soeur d'Atala": title page.

Sometimes attributed to Ambrose-Marie-François-Joseph Palisot de Beauvois, but see Chinard Une soeur ainée d'Atala, Paris, 1950.

Ascribed by Paul Hazard to Palisot de Beauvois. Cf. Revue de littérature comparée. Paris, 1923. Année 3, p. [407]-418.

Possible date of publication supplied by Sabin.

The first edition of Chateaubriand's Atala, which evidently suggested this imitation, appeared at Paris in 1801. Odérahi probably was published in 1802, as a German translation was printed at Berlin in 1803 (B.M.cat.), and a Spanish translation at Madrid in 1804 (Sabin)

Signatures: pi1 (pi1 verso blank) ²pi⁴ (²pi1, ²pi4 versos blank) A-L¹² (L11 verso, L12 blank)

Sabin 56715.

Cioranescu, A. 18 s., 48738.

John Carter Brown Library copy has an additional blank leaf following p. [3], 4th count, which is not counted in collation.

John Carter Brown Library copy acquired with the assistance of the Metcalf Fund.
