George Hammer purchased land on the south branch of the Potomac in 1761, in what was then Augusta County, Virginia. He died in 1801. Descendants and relatives lived in West Virginia, Virginia, Ohio, Maryland, Illinois, Texas, California, Montana, Kansas, Michigan, Florida and elsewhere.
