Edition Notes

  • Almagestum botanicum sive Phytographiae ... onomasticon ... Adjiciuntur et aliquot novarum plantarum icones. - Almagesti botanici mantissa. - Amaltheum botanicum.

Discrepancies between these accounts may be due to variants not yet recognised.

Made-up set bound in 3 vols. comprising the complete work except for pt. iii (plates 121-250) and text of 'Mantissa' (Supplied from 1769 ed.)

Pts. i-ii are folio as described by Guédès (other authorities give 4to). Pt. iv is 4to as described by Henrey, with printed t.p. and no engr. dedication leaf. Guédès describes folio plates with 4to t.p.

Plates from 251 onwards have no printed legends but legends have been added by hand on several.

Plates 281-2, 288 and 292-6 are not present; they were not ready for original publication in 1696 and were apparently added in 1705.

Copy 2 Vol. 1 Note: Plates 251-350 only, with text for 'Mantissa' not in preceding copy. No t.p. or dedication to pt. iv. Although t.p. to 'Mantissa' is dated 1700 this volume may be a later reissue. The plates missing from the preceding copy are present (although 'Mantissa' includes an apology for their absence). T.p. of Mantissa is printed in black only without vignette (Guédès calls for red and black; he and Henrey both call for vignette). Four prelim. leaves with letter by L. Peuzaeus and verses by Robert Plukenet are not present (as in other copies)
