What does it mean to be a leader? How does an individual create an unstoppable organization, reshape a struggle, a competition, or even a society? Why do we listen to one man's voice, and ignore another's? In the history of leadership in America, no one has galvanized a time, place, and people more forcefully than Martin Luther King, Jr.

Now Donald T. Phillips has written an illuminating examination of the leadership style of Martin Luther King, Jr. A man who articulated a vision, crafted a strategy, and took defeats and turned them into victory, Dr. King and his life's work offer us powerful lessons that you can apply to your life, business, and any endeavor you undertake.

First Sentence

"As he reached the top of the steps, twenty-five-year-old Martin Luther King, Jr., must have paused to take a look around before entering the small two-story red-brick building for the first time."

Work Description

While the American Civil War formally ended slavery, it did not end segregation or racial discrimination. It took nearly 15 years of activism, led by the nonviolent movement organized by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., to complete the transformation. The final result was the elimination of federal and state-sanctioned segregation and discrimination. This book chronicles the tenets of leadership that Dr. King practiced during the American Civil Rights Movement. From mastering the art of public speaking to persuading through love and nonviolence, from encouraging imaginative new solutions in changing times to preaching hope, optimism and the power of dreams, this study of Dr. King's leadership offers a definitive and inspiring modern-day example of leadership at its best.
