Edition Notes
The book was written in response to the partial destruction of archaeological remains at Wood Quay, Dublin, at a time when there was little official appreciation of the importance of, or sympathy for, Dublin's archaeological heritage.
Nicholas Maxwell, who had been a site supervisor on the Wood Quay excavation, was the editor of this book. He later went on to found Wordwell, a publishing company specialising in Irish archaeology and history.
