The "unique" copy of a project that "features Kurt Allerslev's fluid story of the iconic Compass Rose (from 1850) that steers the later history of New York City. Allerslev collected all the primary images in the book from sidewalk plaques and other urban surfaces throughout the city. The compass rose has appeared on charts and maps since the 1300s when the portolan charts first made their appearance... The 32 points of the compass rose come from the directions of the ... winds"--Prospectus.
