An edition of Beatriz González (2003)

Beatriz González

auras anónimas

Primera edición.

The book is a tribute to the life work of Beatriz Gonzalez (b. Bucaramanga, 1938), considered one of the most influential artists in Colombia. The title "Auras anónimas" is based in a work where González decided that one way to honor the victims of the armed conflict in Colombia was to intervene the columbariums of the Central Cemetery of Bogotá. The artistic project consisted of the intervention of the open pits of the columbariums, built between 1936 and 1950, and where González placed printed tombstones done manual screen printing with images of black silhouettes. For the installation, eight silhouettes of men carrying the dead bodies in bags were reproduced and placed on 8957 tombstones; these silhouettes were based on the photographs González has been collecting over the years.
