The 2d work was commissioned by the Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge Foundation in the Library of Congress, and first performed there by the same artists, Oct. 30, 1953.

Playable also on monaural equipment.

In the 1st work: Eleanor Steber, soprano, Dumbarton Oaks Chamber Orchestra, William Strickland, conductor; in the 2d work: Leontyne Price, soprano, the composer at the piano.

The 1st work recorded Nov. 7, 1950; 2nd work recorded Nov. 19, 1954.
