Miyazawa Kenji was born to the proprietors of a prosperous pawnshop, begun in his grandfather's time. He was the eldest son, expected to take up the family business; instead he chose the path of scholarship and literature, pursuing his ideals and pouring all his passion into creation. His father, a diligent merchant and respected pillar of the community, struggles to deal with such a son. This is their tale of confrontation and affection.
