"Change is the lifeblood of a city, and San Francisco has a pulse like few others. At any given time, there are literally hundreds of pending building and planning permit applications for demolition of the old, construction of the new or redevelopment to make the old new again. Over the past several years, I've been documenting the neighborhoods where change has clustered, in a series of photo essays that I variously call "Bound to Fall," "Corridors of Change," or sometimes "San Francisco Survivors." I've been less interested in what will be going up (and up and up both in height and cost) than in the buildings that will disappear, and what will be left behind by change. This compilation represents a sampler of sort taken from monographs devoted to several key neighborhoods in transition: the Embarcadero, South of Market, Dogpatch, Showplace Square, Potrero, and especially different sections of the Mission."--Page [1].
