Pavel Polian is a social geographer, historian, poet and writer. "Scrolls from the ashes: victims and executioners of Auschwitz" is a book having two-part composition - Auschwitz-Birkenau and its Chronicles. The members of the "Sonderkommando", which is devoted to this book, are supporting work teams, made up almost exclusively of Jews, whom the Nazis forced to assist them in the mass murder of hundreds of thousands - both Jews and non-Jews. About a hundred people of two thousand survived, and a few dozen of them have written about their experiences (or gave a detailed interview). But the dead left behind a written testimony, and some of them were found after the war in the ground near the crematoria of Auschwitz. These scrolls - undoubtedly, the central document of the Holocaust, recently completely unknown in Russia - for the first time gathered in this book.
