The Buenos Aires government of Juan Martín de Pueyrredón wanted to retain the provincia oriental, so it attacked its political rivals, the Artigas campaign, in the press. This pamphlet, known as "Libel of Cavia" presents an account of the murders committed in the Banda Oriental and in the provinces of Corrientes and Entre Ríos in the period of influence of Artigas in the region.
