Authorized history of the Rankin/Bass animation studio, which churned out beloved holiday specials like "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," "Frosty the Snowman" and countless others, films such as "The Last Unicorn" and "Mad Monster Party?," and TV shows like "Tales of the Wizard of Oz," "King Kong," "The Jackson 5ive" and "ThunderCats."
Each of the studio's productions are chronicled with rare photos and production art, detailed summaries, cast/crew/episode lists, and certain titles include behind the scenes anecdotes. Virtually every page of the book includes multiple illustrations. Early printings featured primarily black-and-white photos with 16 pages of color photos; the subsequent revised and expanded editions included more color illustrations.
Author Rick Goldschmidt is a life-long fan, collector and authoritarian who began work on the book in 1991. He went on to found and co-run rankinbass.com, the studio's official website, as well as author books solely about "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and "Mad Monster Party."
