Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach found her true sphere in narrative, she graphically depicted the surroundings of her Moravian home and showed a true sympathy for the poor and an unsentimental understanding of children, she described with equal insight the life of the Austrian aristocracy.
Personal note: It is very unfortunate that the work has now fallen somewhat into oblivion.
