Added engraved illustrated t.p. by John Droeshout has title and imprint: Trvth brought to light and discouered by Time, or, A discourse and historicall narration of the first XIIII yeares of King Iames reigne. London : Printed by Richard Cotes and are to be sold by Michaell Sparke, 1651.
Pt. 1 and "Sr Francis Bacon, his speech at the arraignment of the Earl of Somerset" (p. 165-176 [i.e. 153-164]) were first published in 1643 under title "The five years of King Iames, or, The condition of the state of England and the relation it had to other provinces", falsely ascribed on the t.p. to Fulke Greville; also doubtfully ascribed to Arthur Wilson (DNB). "The stationer to the impartial reader ... " ([4] p. at end of pt. 3), signed "Mi. Scintilla", notes: you shall finde it had more progenitors then one or two, and that Truth it self hath been the best nurse, and that carefull gentleman G.W. [George Wither?] the worthy preserver of these ... originals.
Chiefly concerns the poisoning of Sir Thomas Overbury and its aftermath.
