Edition Notes
The first (main) t.p. is in black and red.
Cenci's legal treatise (v. [1], p. 1-339) discusses the "censūs," i.e. customary private contracts instituting annual returns, as previously studied by jurists and moralists, in the light of recent papal legislation and Roman Rota's findings. Preliminary pages [17-28] contain papal bulls on the subject by Pius V (of 1569 and 1570), Sixtus V (1585), and Clement VIII (1592 and 1601). Leonelli's and Molina's commentaries follow the treatise.
Vol. [2] has its own t.p., with identical imprint, and is sometimes recorded as an independent work. It documents Cenci's Tractatus with reports on 561 decisions of the Rota.
Both title pages include the publishers' device: allegorical scene illustrating motto "Semina Fortunae geminat cum Tempore Virtus"; within the frame, also the joint publishers' monogram/chiffre.
Vol. [1]: [28], 408, [76] p.; v. [2]: [8], 446, [82] p. Two-column layout.
