Although usually considered the work of George Gascoigne, and later reprinted with considerable changes in his "Posies," 1575, and his "Whole woorkes," 1587, the present editor believes him to be only one of several authors whose work is included. "G.T.," the editor, he supposes to be the Earl of Oxford, and F.I., Sir Christopher Hatton.
