This book is one of two versions. VERSION ONE: Two units of the panorama NIAGARA by Paul Philippoteaux were made in his studio at Mott Haven, The Bronx, in 1887 (for display in London) and 1888 (for display on the European continent). This book by Severance was (1) a promotion of the Buffalo Men's Association of Niagara Falls, New York, but also (2)contains two pages of biography that one would expect to see in ALL 19th century panorama catalogs : Paul Philippoteaux ( with his portrait) and Adrien Shulz.VERSION TWO: two units of the panorama NIAGARA IN WINTER by Edward J.Austen/Reed & Gross, were made depicting Niagara "as it appeared in Mid-Winter 1892-93", painted in the former studios of panoramist William Wehner located in downtown Milwaukee in 1893, one unit for display in London, and the other for display at Frankfurt-am-Main. I have a very NASTY photocopy of the cover for VERSION TWO, and very much want to find the rest of this work by Severence. The COVER ART of the two versions by Severance readily identifies Niagara in warm weather and during the winter. I have not seen the contents of VERSION TWO, but expect to find biographical information about panoramist Edward J. Austen, and perhaps information about Howard H. Gross and Isaac Newton Reed, who were brothers in law from Chicago, provided copies of THE BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG for medium cities from coast to coast, provided Australia with panoramas (50 x 400=20,000 square feet) and rotundas in Melbourne (2), Adelaide (1) and Sydney (1). I am writing the first book about rotunda panoramas from the American point of view. genemeier@verizon.net
