First published at London in 1823.
"For children from ten to twelve years of age"--Preface to the first English edition.
Preface to the second American edition is dated Cambridge, Aug. 25th, 1846. The firm Munroe & Francis dissolved in 1852.
In original publisher's binding: brown bead-grain cloth with boards stamped in blind, spine lettered and decorated in gilt.
Many illustrations in LC copy are hand-colored, apparently by a former owner.
LC copy is a gift of B. George Ulizio, Aug. 16, 1939.
