RBSC copy: English early-17th century binding, sewn on 6 cords forming raised bands. Two-colour double endbands. Full bound brown calfskin. Covers finished in gold to a centre and cornerpiece design and blind with a 3-line fillet forming 2 panels; inner panel finished to a azured centre and cornerpiece design, with small spray of acorns at outer corners; initials "H.G." on both covers. Spine (repaired) finished with one-line fillet forming panels, and a 3-line fillet at head and tail; each panel contains a decorative gilt pallet; orange goatskin lettering piece. Board edges finished with decorative gilt roll. Traces of 2 pairs of ties. Bound by John and Abraham Bateman (?). "H G" is possibly Sir Henry Gooden the younger [cf. note in MS on front flyleaf]. With the autograph of [Lord] Wharton (front pastedown) and of Edwin Smythe (t.p.).
