Chiefly a full-color facsimile of ms. 1889 in the Biblioteca casanatense, Rome, which has been described as "Figurae variae cum hominum tum animalium Asiae et Africae a quodam Lusitano viatore delineatae et depictae sec. ut videtur XVI. in fol. cum brevibus descriptionibus in lingua Lusitana." Included are an essay on the ms. by Barchiesi, an Italian translation of Duarte Barbosa's Livro em que dá relação de que viu e ouviu no Oriente Duarte Barbosa, and essays on related topics by Guadalupi and Boxer.
R. Barchiesi's essay was originally published in Quaderni portoghesi, no. 4 (fall 1978) under title: L'Oriente catalogato in un manoscritto pittorico del cinquecento.
C.R. Boxer's essay, L'impero portoghese in Oriente nel XVI secolo, is translated from his The Portuguese seaborne empire, 1415-1825.
