An edition of Urvater (2013)

Urvater

histoire d'une collection

Berti and Gigi Urvater were passionate about art and artists. Man Ray, Max Ernst, Wilfredo Lam and Roberto Matta were part of their circle of intimate friends. In the years 1950 and '60 they acquired an impressive collection, most well known for its surrealist and abstract works. To harbor their expanding collection in a fitting way, architect André Jacqmain designed an exceptional museum-house near Brussels. This house, a masterpiece of architecture in itself, and its collection - after many years of misfortune - are finally restored to their original glory in this book. Plenty of anecdotes and images make up for a book that testifies of a special era and of the adventures of an extraordinary couple. The paintings and sculptures from the Urvater Collection are to be found in museums and art institutes around the world.
