Pedro Antonio Valdez (1968) is a Dominican poet, playwright, and fiction writer that has received multiple awards for his work, among them the Premio Nacional de Cuento for Papeles de Astarot (short stories, 1992), Premio Nacional de Novela for Bachata del ángel caído (novel, 1998), Carnaval de Sodoma (novel, 2002), and La salamandra (novel, 2002). Naturaleza muerta received the Premio Nacional de Poesía from la Universidad Central de Este in 2001.
