This is a history of the creation of the Welsh national anthem by father and son Evans and James James of Pontypridd, in industrial south Wales, in 1856. The song was created as 'Glan Rhondda' (On the Banks of the Rhondda), but took off as one of several national choruses during the nineteenth century. It officially became the Welsh national anthem in 1953.
