The Christian's Confidence

An in-depth study of the doctrine of eternal security

Can a Christian go to Hell?
Can a Christian lose their salvation?
Can a Christian sin?
No study of soteriology (the doctrine of salvation) could be complete without thoroughly answering these important questions. As we dive into God's Word and examine the truth about eternal security, we'll discover the answer to these questions and more. "The Christian's Confidence" is written with the same depth of information as those written by John Maxwell, David Jeremiah, John MacArthur, Charles Stanley, Warren Wiersbe, and other leading Christian authors. This book will give you an in-depth look at an essential Bible doctrine. Inside, you'll find an analysis of what the Bible teaches about eternal security and a careful examination of the passages that seem to contradict that truth. I sincerely hope that you will end up with a solid understanding of the truth that is clearly taught in the Bible and that you will be equipped to defend that truth in the face of those who would attack it.
Jesus said, in John 8:32, "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." When you understand the truth of eternal security, you will be free - free from the bondage of religion and free from fear. When you know what the Bible says about salvation, you can be truly free in Christ.

Excerpts

This is the picture that God has given us about a Christian – the relationship between a parent and a child. We aren’t slaves, abused by our master. We aren’t servants working for a salary (although serving the Lord has its benefits – see 1 Corinthians 2:9 and Colossians 3:23-24), because a servant who doesn’t do his job can be fired. But God made us sons and not servants or slaves! A son who doesn’t fulfill his responsibilities might be punished (we’ll study that point in great detail in chapter five), but he will not be kicked out of the family. Our position in God’s family is permanent.

When someone believes in the name of Jesus, according to John 1:12, and when one receives the Holy Spirit (which happens when we trust in Jesus, according to Ephesians 1:13), God makes that person His child. If we’re going to believe those who say that salvation can be lost, then God would have to send His own children to Hell. Where does the Bible say that the children of God will go to Hell? Nowhere! God doesn’t send His children to Hell (He won’t tell them, “I never knew you,” like in Matthew 7:23) because true salvation can’t be lost.

Therefore, if a Christian could lose his salvation, we would have to conclude that God’s seal is defective. But God’s seal is not defective. God’s seal will keep us saved until we reach our destination in Heaven.
