Edition Notes

The Observations "were originally drawn up in June 1812 in a letter addressed to Dr. [Colin] Chisholm, and were intended as an answer to his strictures on my proposed classification of contagious diseases: the substance of that communication to Dr. Chisholm has ... been preserved entire, though ... the epistolary form is laid aside" - p. [3]

"Additional notes on contagion, &c" (including previous letters between Hosack and Chisholm): p. [45]-84.

Also published in the Transactions of the Literary and Philosophical Society of New-York, v. 1 (1815) p. [201]-280.
