Ricci wrote this work in 1609. It was written in Italian with admixtures of Portuguese, Spanish, and Chinese. Fellow Jesuit, Nicolas Trigaut, translated it into Latin in 1615 and it is on this translation that subsequent editions are based, including this Italian edition from 1622 by Antonio Sozzini.
