Edition Notes
Constitutes the twelfth part of Theodor de Bry's Small voyages, printed in 13 parts and an Appendix in Frankfurt am Main and Oppenheim from 1597 to 1633.
This work has been identified as the sole Latin edition of part twelve of the Small voyages by Church.
Part XII. of the Small voyages was published by Wilhelm Fitzer, a son-in-law of Johann Theodor de Bry. The three sections of which it is composed had been previously published in German, forming parts XII. and XIII. of the Small voyages, in which they had been divided into fifty-one distinct chapters. Fitzer in publishing this volume, which contains the results of new voyages undertaken by the English and Dutch in Oriental countries, had a desire to bring the collection published by his family down to date. The greater part of these voyages had already been published by Purchas in his collection. Tiele (p. 198-202) gives the titles of some of the chapters which had been published separately in Dutch; and Camus (p. 272-273) gives the contents of both the English and Dutch voyages. Cf. Church.
Includes a description of l'Hermite's circumnavigation and description of Iceland and Greenland in section three.
