Added engraved and folded title page reads: The history of Lapland written in Latin by Iohn Scheffer, newly done into English from ye last edition with large additions.

Translation of: Argentoratensis Lapponia id est, regionis Lapponum, first printed Frankfurt am Main, 1673.

First translated into English in 1674 and printed at Oxford.

This translation is probably from the French edition printed at Paris, in 1678, which contains several addenda as included in this translation. Cf. Preface.

"A short description of the great dukedom of Finland, and the lordship of Ingermanland", p. 373-377, has separate caption title.

"An account of Livonia, with the manners, customs and religion of its antient as well as modern inhabitants, and the chief occurrences that have happened there, during the present war betwixt Muscovy, the King of Poland and the Swedes", p. 378-408, has separate caption title.

"An account of a voyage of Charles XI. late King of Sweden, in the year, 1694. to the borders of Lapland, with the observations made by Mr. Andrew Spole and Mr. John Bilberg, two of his mathematicians in the year 1695. in Lapland, and some other of the most northern parts of Sweden, by special command from his said Majesty", p. 409-416, has separate caption title.

Includes a discussion of the fondness for tobacco, bought in the markets in Norway, of the Sami people; also includes a reference to Swedish churches in America.
