The author was charged in 1791 to transport the new governor of Saint-Domingue, Philibert François Rouxel de Blanchelande, to his new post in the colony. In transit to Port-au-Prince, several troops stormed the ship and caused the sailors to mutiny. Négrier barely escaped lynching. Upon his return to France he related the events in his Mémoire in the Assemblé nationale. Pages 22-47 contain 18 pièces justificatives written by the author, Blanchelande and others.
