Constitutes the fourth part of Theodor de Bry's Small voyages, printed in 13 parts and an Appendix in Frankfurt am Main and Oppenheim from 1597 to 1633.
This work has been identified as the sole Latin edition of part four of the Small voyages by Church.
This part contains: (1) Chapters 45-91 of Linschoten's voyage; translated by Bilibaldus Strobaeus. (2) The remaining part of Houtman's voyage containing a description of the animals and fruits of the East Indies; continued from part III. (3) A very brief account of a voyage to the East Indies made by Jacob Cornelisz Neck (or van Neck) and Wybrandt van Warwijk, in 1598-99. This relation was published in full in Part V. Cf. Church.
The first part is a translation of selections of: Itinerario, voyage ofte schipvaert, van Jan Huygen van Linschoten naer Oost ofte Portugaels Indien / by Jan Huygen van Linschoten, first printed Amsterdam, 1596.
"Brevis enarratio eorvm animalivm, frvctvm, arborvmqve, qvae in diuersis Indiae locis, comprimis verò in laua insula sunt & inueniuntur", p. 91-103, is a translation of selections of: Verhael vande reyse by de hollandtsche schepen gedaen naer Oost Indien published by Barent Langenes, Middelburg, 1597. The voyage was made under the command of Cornelis de Houtman.
"Qvarta pars qvae est vera descriptio postremae navigationis, ab Hollandis in Indiam Orientalem svsceptae: qvi circa vernum tempus anni 1598. cum octo nauibus è patria soluentes, tandem mense Iulio anni 1599. cum saluis quatuor nauibus feliciter appulerunt", p. 104-11, is a translation of selections of: Journael ofte dagh-register, inhoudende een waerachtigh verhael vande reyse ghedaen 1598 / by Jacob Cornelisz van Neck and Wijbrant van Warwyck, first printed Amsterdam, 1601.
"Icones sev Genvinae et expressae delineationes eorvm omnivm, qvae in hac qvarta Indiae Orientalis descriptione singularia offeruntur: vbi peregrinorum quorundam animalium, arborum, fructuum, plantarumque, &c. aliàs non visorum viua effiges exhibetur. Qvae omnia et svmptvosis impensis, & opera accurata in aes incisa, publicaeque luci communicata sunt à Ioanne Theodorico et Ioanne Israele de Bry fratribus & ciuibus Moeno Francofurtensibus", p. [2-3], 3rd count, has separate title page with imprint: Francofvrti, Imprimebat Matthaevs Becker. Anno M. DCI. [1601]
