"The editor of the first [i.e., this] edition took the liberty of suppressing all passages which reflected on the Earl of Shaftesbury. Copies of these passages were found among Locke's papers, and are printed in Christie's Life of Shaftesbury (vol. I, p.lvi-lxii)." --Dict. nat. biog.
1st ed. 2 vols. only as published. A third volume was brought out by the editor [Isaac Littlebury?] in 1699. This imprint is considered fictitious and was probably printed in London by John Darby cf. C.H. Firth's edition of the Memoirs, 1894 v.1, p.vii,x-xiv.
