"Substantial revisions have been made to the discussions of the work of Jacques Gréber, the development of the design of the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 1912-16, the Free Library, and the Rodin Museum. I have written all-new sections on the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University and the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia. Notable in this new work is additional information about the role played by the pathbreaking African American architect Julian Abele in the design of the Free Library and the art museum"--Preface, page ix.
