Excerpts

In his study of the activities of a group of followers of William Harvey who pursued, during the decades between 1640 and 1690, a cluster of unsolved problems made prominent by Harvey's discovery of the circulation of the blood, Robert Frank wrote in 1980 that the older historians of science had tended to treat only the "products" of past developments: that is, the explanations reached for the phenomena examined.
