THE FIRST EUROPEAN CONTACT WITH THE MIAMI occurred about 1654 when two French explorers, the famed Pierre-Esprit Radisson and his businessman brother-in-law, Medard Chouart, sieur de Groseilliers, found Miami refugees northwest of Green Bay, Wisconsin, somewhere near the head of the Fox River.
