Triangular norms as some binary operations in the closed unit interval [0, l] R of real numbers were originally introduced and used by MENGER (1942) when generalizing the triangle inequality from classical metric spaces to probabilistic metric spaces in which probability distributions rather than numbers serve to describe distances between elements.
