Edition Notes
Attributed to Joel Barlow. Cf. Zunder, T.A. The early days of Joel Barlow, a Connecticut wit, 1934, p. 176-177, 285.
Not dated, but the line, "And bring ... the first happy New-Year ..." suggests that this was the first carriers' address issued by the American Mercury. The American Mercury was established in 1784 by Joel Barlow and Elisha Babcock; the verses were presumably printed late in 1784 for distribution on or about Jan. 1, 1785.
Printed area measures 19.9 x 8.4 cm.
