Edition Notes
A collection of drolls and playlets originally published in two parts, pt. 1 by Henry Marsh in 1662 (2d ed. published by Francis Kirkman in 1672) and pt. 2 by Francis Kirkman in 1673. Many of the pieces are taken from well known plays by Shakespeare and others. Five of the twenty-seven drolls in pt. 1 were previously issued in a small volume entitled Actæon and Diana, by Robert Cox. Kirkman, the probable compiler, in his preface to pt. 2, called Robert Cox "not only the principal actor, but also the contriver and author" of most of the drolls. This reprint is based on the original editions, with reproductions of original title-pages. cf. Introd
