The tomb of a high ranked priestess from the top of the hierarchy in the Lambayeque culture, is one of the most important archaeological finds of recent times. This exhibition is dedicated to its powerful history and the goldsmithing work of the Lambayeque culture (800 to 1350 A.D.). The museographic script and curatorship were by archaeologist Carlos Wester La Torre, director of the Museo Arqueológico Nacional Brüning, where the archaeological pieces come from, and also director of the archaeological project Chotuna-Chornancap since 2006, where in 2011 was found and excavated the tomb of the high ranked woman. The exhibition recreates the discovery and excavation process of the tomb in an area south of the pyramid Chornancap known as "the elite residence" and narrates in detail the different components of the elaborate funerary ritual, and how, thanks to the iconographic attributes of a silver anthropomorphic mask, a high-ranking female character was recognized whom archaeologists have named "the priestess of Chornancap".
