The book deals with the socio-cultural background under which the modernist spirit in Peru is made its way and the influence exerted by the Agrupación Espacio and the Galería de Lima in the creation of the IAC. The authors research throughout the history of IAC (Instituto de Arte Contemporáneo) since its inauguration in 1955 in the rooms located in the Jirón Ocoña street in Lima, with Manuel Mujica Gallo as founding president, its transfer to the Casa Mujica and its installation in the environments of the Museo de Arte Italiano to the reunion of the IAC members in 1981 and the activities they developed with a view to creating the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (MAC) in Lima.
