An edition of Maritieme meesterwerken (2021)

Maritieme meesterwerken

This exhibition tells the stories of shipping and harbours and the people in it thru six centuries of paining and objects. Containing a unique collection from well known names as Jeroen Bosch thru Willem van de Velde de Oude to Guido van der Werve and dating from the 16th to the 21st century. The exhibition does not only contain the best of two collections joining forces, it also tells the story from two sides. First of all the art historical. What makes a painting special? What moved the painter to create it and who or what influcenced him or her? Besides that we tell the maritime story. What do you see and why is this important? Masterpieces made by Claude Monet, Paul Signac, Jeroen Bosch, Hendrik Avercamp and Jozef Israëls meet each other in a unique presentation and are joined by modern art by Guido van de Werve, Sasja Hagens and Dolf Henkes. A part of this exhibition consists of a large selection of drawings by Willem van de Velde de Oude. Part of 'Boijmans Next Door' due to the temporary closure of the Boijmans Museum. Exhibition: Maritiem Museum Rotterdam, The Netherlands (12.02.2021 - 04.09.2022).
