While producing his 'On the Mines' photographic series documenting the South African mining industry from 1968, Goldblatt visited also travelled to Western Australia to document the legacy of blue asbestos mining in Australia, including the 'ghost town' of Wittenoom, in the Pilbara region far north of Perth and depicted in this exhibition catalogue.
