Work Description
This book is an in-depth probe into the anti-establishment uprising of a fanatical Wahabi leader of rural western Bengal, named Titu Meer. The uprising which is otherwise known as the Moulavee Movement occurred in 1831. Titu Meer's relations with the local landlords in his sphere of activity, indigo planters and the colonial British Government in the rural interior have been analysed along with his ideological moorings. The contentions in this study might appear highly provocative but they are well-documented.
