An edition of Type, paper, print (2012)

Type, paper, print

"A type specimen book displaying the nine roman and 11 italics faces, and sizes, that will form HM's core repertoire for the next five to ten years. ... There is a three-page forward written by the printer, discussing why these faces have been chosen, and how they will be used (and printed) at the studio. ... To add an element of bibliographic intrigue, and make the endeavor more interesting for everyone, the text used to display the types will be H.P. Lovecraft's short story 'The Horror at Red Hook.'" -- Heavenly Monkey website.

Edition Notes

"I have to actually print a typeface on my handpress, before I can develop a sense of how to work with it during the stages that must precede printing. I do not really see a type until I have printed it."--Title page.

"This book was set by Rollin Milroy ... Milroy printed the pages on dampened Guarro paper ... with a handpress at Heavenly Monkey. For comparison purposes, additional copies were also printed (damp) on Reg Lissel's HM Text & on Arches Wove. Ten copies (1-10) have been extra-bound by Claudia Cohen with the specimens repeated on each of the three papers. Forty copies (11-50) of just the Guarro pages have been cased at the HM studio ..." -- Colophon.
