The beautiful Central Jutland landscape with Himmelbjerget as a towering focus was first discovered by the Copenhagen cultural elite in the 1830s, when artists carefully snuck out into the magnificent scenery. It was the painter Vilhelm Kyhn who really opened everyone's eyes when he and his students went on summer studies to Ry in the 1870s. Here a colony was formed in line with other large contemporary Danish artist colonies, where landscape painting formed the framework and especially Kyhn's view of art its content. 20th century and a portrait of the as yet relatively unknown artist colony centered around Vilhelm Holm's person and the legacy of this.
