'Dissident maps' is an investigation of a set of maps and diagrams produced by artists and activists between the 1960s and 2010, in times of crisis, conflict and potential forms of resistance. Based on the analysis of counter-cartographies created by Oyvind Fahlstrom (1928-1976), Mark Lombardi (1951-2000) and the collectives Bureau d'Eþtudes (France), Counter-Cartographies Collective (United States) and Iconoclasistas (Argentina), the book presents and discusses the maps of these artist-activists as important experiences in the production of knowledge and the visualization of power relations in the contemporary world. The projects of these artists and collectives question the supposedly impartial, objective and naturalizing maps, guided by corporate, military and governmental interests.
