Edition Notes

Catalog of an exhibition held at Municipal House in Prague, July 11 - October 6, 2019

"One school of thought claims that the artist is co-responsible for the state of the society in which he lives. The second school leaves the artist in an ivory tower to make his work even more beautiful. The authors Zuzana and Eugen Brikcius prepared a unique catalog for their exhibition The Unbreakable From Franz Kafka to the Velvet Revolution for the thirtieth anniversary of the Velvet Revolution in cooperation with the Aleš South Bohemian Gallery in Hluboká nad Vltavou and the National Literature Memorial. It will present the works of thirty unbreakable (and unbroken) visual artists, including their verbal expressions, whether they are verses, diary entries, quotes or interviews. Otto Gutfreund, Jindřich Štýrský, Toyen, Josef Čapek, Mikuláš Medek, Stanislav Kolíbal, Eva Kmentová, Karel Nepraš and Jiří Kolář will be present. Steadfastness is not necessarily related only to politics or social events, it also lies in unwavering faith in one's own artistic path. With his metaphysical work, critical thinking and responsible social attitude, the writer Franz Kafka became the inspiration for a number of exhibited artists, including the authors of the exhibition."--www.ajg.cz
