Contains a letter, dated Richmond, May 29, 1840, from Thomas Ritchie, secretary of the Central Democratic Committee of Virginia, to J.R. Poinsett, Secretary of War, asking him to explain his plan for reorganizing the militia, followed by Poinsett's reply, dated Washington, June 5th, 1840.
"From the Richmond enquirer. We are requested by the Central Committee of the Democratic Party of Virginia to lay the following correspondence before our readers--and they earnestly recommend Mr. Poinsett's luminous, dignified and able letter ..."--Page [1].
